A funny thing seems to happen around the holidays… people are nicer for no apparent reason. I don’t personally celebrate any religious holidays but I find the typical public decorum to be quite amusing around this time of year. Fellow employees at my job are jovial and much more interested in my welfare and made sure they went around to everyone to wish them a merry christmas prior to leaving for the night on December 24th.

I’m not complaining about people being nice to each other, but I do take issue with the fact that it only happens for a short time around the end of December. Why can’t people be nice and friendly to others year round? Can you imagine how much more enjoyable life on this earth would be if people acted as if everyday was christmas!?
A guy can dream right?

I just finished watching the movie Source Code and have to say that it is the first movie in quite a long time to have such a profound impact on me. I’ll be the first to admit that I live for movies and music and that I am a deeply emotional person, but the storyline and concept of Source Code really hit home for me.

I’ve also noticed a trend in movies lately to not leave me feeling satisfied at the end. This is usually done by not providing closure or leaving loose ends of some sort. I absolutely hate a story that doesn’t wrap itself up and provide some sort of end. To me, leaving a story open ended is a cheap cop out to a creative conclusion.

Without giving away too much of the movie, I can say that it evolves around the very core of human nature, or perhaps the nature of those who live to put others needs and happiness above their own. In this case the virtue of those members of the military who are some of the most selfless individuals I know.

As an aside I would just like to point out that as of right now, the US congress has still not come to agreement on raising the debt ceiling and there are reports that soldiers are concerned with not receiving their paychecks in the meantime and this is absolutely disgusting. The last thing a soldier serving overseas should have to worry about is whether their wife/husband/children will receive the money they need to pay the bills. They deserve better and our representatives in congress owe them better. I’m saddened that these innocent heros are being caught in the middle of this stupid partisan rodeo being conducted by people earning six figure salaries, sitting in their air conditioned offices in Washington DC.

For now, I will leave it at that. Bottom line, go pick up Source Code.

The older I get, the less I understand the actions of those around me. Perhaps that is why I chose Economics as my course of study in college, to better understand why people make the decisions they do. Unfortunately for the law of economics, I have come to a conclusion that goes against every economic theory in existence… people DO NOT make rational decisions. No matter how I slice it, I just can’t seem to find the logic or rationality in the decisions made by individuals.

I see people doing crazy, stupid things every single day and I’m left wondering why? Financially, I see people driving across town to save 2 cents a gallon on gas or to get an item that’s on sale for 10 cents off, spending more in their time and gas than the savings would provide. Non-financially, I see people using others for their own gain. Lying, cheating and stealing their way through life and not caring about the carnage they leave in their wake. What is rational about destroying the lives of others by emotionally abusing them? I haven’t found the answer but have suffered the abuse from several people recently. What is rational about putting your own selfish needs above the needs of those you care about most?

This rant is meant as therapy for myself and really serves no purpose to you, the reader, at all. If you know the answer to why people are irrational beings, please share your theory. But in the meantime I have come to the conclusion that I can’t live with my life and I can’t live without it either.

This is no surprise to me that the national unemployment rate rose to 9.2% in the latest numbers released today. I have not been drinking the economic recovery kool-aid and I really don’t see the worst being behind us in terms of economic suffering. This increase in unemployment is only the first indicator of a sour economy continuing to drag the nation down. The economic recovery can be tied to the health of the housing market and I believe there is a wave of foreclosures that will be occurring throughout the rest of 2011. Currently, these homeowners are living in their homes without paying a mortgage as they await foreclosure on their underwater property. While they are not paying a mortgage, they are able to spend those dollars in the economy in the form of eating out, going to the mall, purchasing electronics and other niceties. Once these people are foreclosed on, the gravy train will end and they will be paying rent to a landlord who won’t be so kind regarding non-payment. When these foreclosures are pushed through, there will be a significant contraction of consumer spending as that money is then diverted to rent payments.

I have noticed a tightening of hours for those working at the restaurant I am employed at part-time. This is a first reaction to softening sales as labor costs are the easiest to control. I think consumer spending is on the decline and unemployment will continue to creep up.

[tags]economy, double dip, recession, unemployment[/tags]

This past week on Wall Street was something extraordinary. The biggest one week gain in two years came amid disappointing consumer sentiment, rising oil prices and decent earnings announcements. The Dow Jones Industrial Average moved up 5.4% last week, which is astonishing and leads me to wonder where the market will go from here. The summer is typically a pretty slow period for the market, but anyone caught on the short side of this is certainly hurting this weekend.

This market has been a confusing mess and trades more on outside factors and less on fundamentals. Banks are trading at less than book value because of fear of their stability, foreclosures are on the rise, retailers are posting good numbers, unemployment remains high, gold fell below $1500/oz. There is so much conflicting economic news, it is anybody’s guess where the market goes next week. But I am willing to say that we will not see another 5% gain.

Rep. Darrell Issa is proposing legislation to increase the level of government control over the USPS and I think this is the worst possible move that could be made to save the ailing mail carrier. While the bill does offer some solutions that USPS would undoubtedly achieve on their own without government control, I think less is more here and the government needs to get out of the USPS.

The United States Postal Service, despite what most people believe, is a private organization that receives very little, and technically no, federal funding. The postal service was designed to be a self-sustaining organization that would provide mailing services to all residents of the United States. The USPS is the second largest civilian employer, behind Wal-Mart. Up to this point, there is no reason that the USPS can’t operate in a self-sustaining way. However, part of the formation of the USPS included Congressional oversight.

The problem with putting politicians in charge of an organization that receives no federal funding is that they will require it to operate like the government, even though it operates in a competitive business environment with no subsidy. Some of the business decisions that the USPS can make only with Congressional approval:

Changing postage rates

Retirement plan funding

Healthcare funding

Six day delivery

Universal Service

The recent request by USPS to eliminate Saturday delivery was blocked by Congress. This move will strap the USPS from making needed cost cuts. They are also forbidden from closing post office locations that lose money. All of the things a typical corporation can do, the USPS cannot.

Congress is currently taking a hardline against the USPS and a rumored bailout, but they are the ones who have caused the current situation and need to take responsibility. Congress needs to bailout the USPS and cut it loose, allowing it to operate fully independent of the federal government, otherwise we are headed down a long road of government subsidization to keep the USPS operating as it currently does.

[tags]usps, postal service, mail, bailout[/tags]

This is becoming my favorite track on the new Bad Meets Evil album featuring Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″. The lyrics in this song are crazy and the way that both artists string them together is nothing short of amazing. Best lyric of the track: “Tell Gaga she can quit her job at the post office, she’s still a male lady.”

“A Kiss”

I wanna get kissed, kissed, kissed
I wanna get kissed, kissed, kissed
I wanna get kissed, kissed, kissed
I wanna get kissed, kissed, kissed

[Royce da 5'9"]
Nickel Nina nigga Twitter beefing, first rapper that shot a fan
Gucci’s my absolute state of mind, like Waka’s man
Chopper’s brand, getting head in the car park, new Gallardo
This bitch sucking my dick today, call it yesterday’s news tomorrow
Stretch a nigga out, I’m the new Tae-bo ’bout to cross over, I’m the new Ivo
‘Bout to saves a couple of these bitches, that’s right, I’m the new Bible
You? You five-O, me? I’m all grounded to punishments
But I’m too fly though, y’all niggas be winin’, I should call you Moscato

[Eminem]
Look down at the floorboard
It looks like someone left a pair of stiletto shoes in my Tahoe
Never know what type of a ho inside of my ride I may let
Last night at the 5 a.m., and she ain’t even recover from last Friday yet
Hoes all over the ride like it’s an ice cream truck, I can see why they fret
I already ran over two hoes and I ain’t get out the fucking drive way yet
Soon as I open the door, you try to resist, what for? Get in girl, don’t push
Shorty you’re, fightin’ an unwinnable war, it’s useless as, tits on a boy,
Little tits on a whore
Got a mack and it’s screaming like little kids throwing fits on the floor
Get in the whip but you ain’t turning, a frog into a prince, what you tryna
Keep your hands on me for?

[Chorus]
I wanna get kissed, kissed, kissed
(No you don’t)
I wanna get kissed, kissed, kissed
(Not from me)
I wanna get kissed, kissed, kissed
(Not on the lips, are you crazy?)
I wanna get kissed, kissed, kissed
(Maybe the cheek but that’s all you gon’ get from me)

[Verse 2: Eminem]
Now you in my whip just long as you understand that I can’t be whipped
You say companionship, I say abandon ship, I’m a gigolo so you know
I’m always on the go, I ain’t got no time to slow down for no relationshit
Drop the P and add a T, yeah, you can get mad at me all you want
But I’m ghost before you can even say boo, hun let alone call me one
A one night stand is all he wants but a female fan, yeah, one like Stan
So by the one nightstand this bedroom has two lamps and only one nightstand
Get the hint? Ooh yeah boo, ew! I ain’t finna argue but why do you think
They call it boo? Yeah, cause the sound of it’s ‘posed to scare you

[Royce da 5'9"]
Oh ho, we can share you in the back of the McLaren
I don’t give a fuck what your name is, we gon’ call you Hi and Bye
Hope you bi in the mean time your name is Sharon
Slow the flow down so I can what? Tell you same face
I make when I’m shooting the gun’s the same face that I make when I fuck
From the back of my hand on your neck pressing your face against the sheets
It’s insane
You been changed, cause I’m outta this world girl I got that Milky Way dick vein
I’m at an all-time high with highness, I’m at an all-time fly with flyness
And this is exactly what they say when they bow to your highness, yeah

[Chorus]

[Royce da 5'9"]
Nickel Nina nigga Twitter beefing, first rapper that shot a fan
(Push a chick out the car while it’s moving like Waka’s man)
Her bottom’s dark, but her top is tan, her private parts
Got her on the pole like the opposite of her papa’s plan
(Come on stripper, let’s hit the strip 180 throw it in reverse
And drop the trance! I’m in the trance, now look at this bitch dance)
Looking at this tramp, like what you wearing girl, quit playing
(Yeah bitch and them scrach and sniff pants? Well let me scratch ‘em)
Let me sniff, yeah What? Did I say that?
I’m on lean like styrofoam cups and kickstands

[Eminem]
Middle finger stuck on fuck, stiff hands
But girl you got a butt like no if ands
So yea what the hell, maybe, oh hell, Shady, he’ll tell it like it is
So tell Katy Perry he’s on the tail, he’s tailgating still bating
These bells are my maiden call and I’m here, bell’s raiding and tell Lady
Gaga, she can quit her job at the post office, she’s still a male lady
Wouldn’t fuck her with her dick you heard, the verdict
Seein’ he’s allergic to divas, and take meat cleavers to ‘em
Him don’t give a damn about Beaver do him?
What a demon, a behemoth, evil just seems to be seething through him

[Royce da 5'9"]
I like the little strip tease you doing this evening, you and me gon’ find
Three more chickadees and have a Minaj like Nicki
You hot like a Dickie outfit in Texas without shit under it, sweating
Suck my dick, both gets to steppin’ to my logic

[Eminem]
My God trick, my dick is hard, thick as a yardstick
What we gonna do? Ride around ’til we’re carsick
Then I’m gonna put this shit in park like dog shit
And you can blow me in the dark in the parking lot
Out of the trailer park by the garbage
What you waiting on? Me to roll up the carpet?
The condoms are in the glove compartment, let’s start it
Think I’m joking? What, am I sitting here
Tryna make fake farts with my armpits?
Tryna get you to spit pot through your nose?
Am I here to amuse you? Stop it

[Royce da 5'9"]
I’m in your pocket outside of a church
The other hand is at the bottom of your purse
You giving me head in a boxing stance
My dick’s so big you could drop it in dirt
I’m not your man, we’re sparring partners
There’s five things you are in charge of, that’s
Sucking a dick, sucking a dick, sucking a dick
Sucking a dick, sucking a dick

[Eminem]
If you ain’t sucking a dick, why you sitting there
With puckered lips? Oh that’s collagen, mothafucking bitch
What you mean how’d you, get suckered into this
You gon’ jump into my truck and then try to get truculent?
(You should be suffering, you should be cooking
You should be buckling your seatbelt with oven mitts)
Excuse me while I’m making an ass of myself
But it’s only cause I just wanna get

[Chorus]

As a diehard Eminem fan, I picked up the new Bad Meets Evil album that was released today. Bad Meets Evil is a rap duo composed of Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″. During D12′s rise in popularity, Eminem and Royce parted ways and have since reunited to release an incredible debut hip hop album that truly showcases the lyrical ability of both rappers.

Here is the music video for the first single, Fast Lane:

Eminem and Mr. Porter are executive producers on this album and it’s released by Shady Records. This EP was said to consume about 5-6 months for Eminem, which doesn’t seem out of the ordinary considering his perfectionist ways. Eminem’s blueprint for success is evident throughout this album from the catchy beats and samples to the amazing lyrical onslaught in tracks like Fast Lane and Loud Noises. So far, the album is getting 4 and 5 star reviews and I really hope to see it top the charts for a while.
The only downside I have found with this record is that it is only 9 tracks (11 on the deluxe edition) and it would have been great to have a more traditional Eminem-style album with close to 20 tracks. The catchiest track of them all is the single Fast Lane and it just hits the spot. Some other tracks I really enjoy are Welcome 2 Hell, A Kiss and Lighters.

Order your own copy of Hell: The Sequel from CD Universe via Ebates and get 5% cash back on your purchase, plus an additional $5 bonus! As I write this, with the $5 bonus and 5% off you can get the album for only $2.60!
