The SEC charged Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban with insider trading today. He is accused of selling 600,000 shares of Mamma.com stock in 2004 with knowledge of a future issuance of stock at a lower price that saved him over $750,000 in potential losses.

I have to wonder why these multi-billionaires feel the need to take risks like this over a small amount of money when compared to their overall net worth. The same holds true for Martha Stewart who was convicted and served time in jail for lying about a stock sale that saved her a paltry sum. It’s just not worth it, yet they keep doing it – go figure.
